Building a Legacy: Faith, Family, and Generational Stewardship

From the beginning, our family’s journey in business has been shaped by hard work, resilience, and faith. It started with my grandfather, who laid the foundation through sheer determination and resourcefulness. My father carried that vision forward as CEO, leading us through humble beginnings and countless challenges. Today, alongside my wife, my son (1yr old) my sister Avery, and her two sons, we’re building not just a business, but a generational legacy rooted in purpose, faith, and responsibility.

Humble Beginnings: A Foundation of Hard Work

Growing up homeschooled, my life revolved around two things: school and work. My schoolwork was always completed by lunchtime, and as soon as I was done, I would hop on my bike and head to my father’s warehouse. That warehouse became my classroom, where I learned lessons no textbook could teach.

I started at the bottom, sweeping floors and doing whatever small tasks were needed. My father never handed me anything; every role, every responsibility had to be earned. Looking back, I’m grateful for that. Those years taught me the value of hard work and persistence—traits that are now a part of my very being.

My sister Avery shares a similar story. She has been an integral part of our business, embodying the same work ethic and determination that have defined our family for generations. As we’ve grown, her two sons have also started to learn the importance of these values, working alongside us and beginning to understand what it takes to sustain a legacy.

Faith and Family: The Core of Our Mission

One of the greatest blessings in my life has been the opportunity to work alongside my wife. The Lord, in His wisdom, knew my heart’s desire to share this journey with her, and He brought us together not just as life partners, but as business partners. Together, we share a vision: to build a legacy that honors God, provides for our family, and leaves a lasting impact on the generations to come.

This legacy extends to my sister Avery and her sons. They are part of the same mission, contributing their unique strengths and perspectives to what we’re building. As a family, we are united by a shared purpose—not for personal gain, but for the future of our children, their children, and beyond.

A Legacy Beyond Wealth

Our work isn’t about profits today; it’s about building wealth for future generations. And by wealth, we don’t just mean financial resources. We’re talking about a wealth of values, character, and faith that will sustain our family through whatever challenges come their way.

At the same time, we recognize the delicate balance of preparing future generations. It’s not enough to simply provide; we must also teach. There’s a fine line between making life too easy and equipping our children with the tools they need to manage what they inherit. The Bible is filled with stories that teach the importance of stewardship, responsibility, and hard work. These lessons guide us as we raise our children to understand that every blessing comes with accountability.

Building Resilience Through Challenges

The business world is full of ups and downs—some exhilarating, others deeply challenging. It’s in those difficult moments that character is forged. My wife, Avery, and I know that the determination and grit we’ve built over years of hard work are what sustain us through both the highs and the lows.

These traits are what we strive to pass on to the next generation. My son and Avery’s sons are growing up surrounded by examples of resilience, dedication, and faith. Whether they’re helping in the business now or simply observing, they’re learning what it means to wake up every day, work hard, and move forward, no matter the obstacles.

Faith and Stewardship in Business

At King Surplus, our work reflects our belief in stewardship—not just of assets, but of the blessings the Lord has entrusted to us. We aim to create a business that doesn’t just provide for today, but builds a foundation for the future.

This includes making the most of what we have, valuing resources, and teaching our children to do the same. It’s about instilling in them the discipline to work hard, the wisdom to make thoughtful decisions, and the faith to trust in God’s plan.

Conclusion: A Legacy Worth Building

Our journey is about more than just business. It’s about faith, family, and the responsibility to create something that lasts. With my wife by my side, my sister Avery contributing her strength and dedication, and our children learning alongside us, we’re building a legacy that goes far beyond profits.

This legacy is for my son, Avery’s two sons, and the generations that will follow. It’s about equipping them not just with resources, but with the values and character they need to steward those resources wisely.

We believe the Lord has blessed us with this opportunity, and it is our prayer that we honor Him in everything we do. By focusing on faith, hard work, and the long-term vision of what we’re building, we are creating something that will not only stand the test of time but also glorify the God who has made it all possible.
