Braking resistors are connected to the DC bus of variable frequency drives (VFDs) to dissipate regenerative energy when motors are decelerating or holding back overhauling loads. Applications include hoist and crane braking, elevator regeneration, conveyor decel, and any VFD-driven application where regenerative energy must be dissipated to prevent DC bus overvoltage.
