Item Description
This is a Signal Transformer Co. model 68-50 laminated core power transformer, built at the company's former Inwood, New York address shown on the nameplate. Signal Transformer, now part of Bel Fuse as Bel Signal, makes standard and custom power transformers for electronic equipment and control panels.
A power transformer of this type steps line voltage down to a lower secondary voltage to feed rectifiers, DC power supplies, battery chargers, plating or heating loads and control circuits. In the Signal 68 series the primary has taps for 105, 115, 125 and 230 volts, and the secondary is split into two windings that give 34 volts when connected in parallel or 68 volts when connected in series. The number after the dash follows the series-connected secondary current; distributors list the 68-25, for example, at 1700 VA with 50 amps parallel or 25 amps series.
