Item Description
Belt-style compressor crankcase heater rated 480 volts, 40 watts, carrying the heater maker prefix 142-840028 used on Emerson Copeland 018-0091 series crankcase heaters. The heating element is formed into a flat band that wraps the lower shell of the compressor and is drawn tight with a stainless worm-drive clamp band.
Crankcase heaters keep compressor oil warmer than the rest of the refrigeration circuit during the off cycle. That stops liquid refrigerant from condensing in the crankcase and diluting the oil, which otherwise foams on start-up, strips lubrication from the bearings and can damage valves. They are standard on commercial condensing units, rooftop units and outdoor compressors on larger refrigerant charges.
The 40W rating suits smaller compressor shells than the 70W and 90W versions in the same family. Voltage must match the circuit that feeds the heater, and this unit is for 480V equipment.
