APCOR Geartronics Trav-I-Matic SW Traversing Unit with Rotating Shaft, Sprocket and End Bearings

The APCOR Trav-I-Matic is a mechanical traversing unit built by Geartronics Industries Inc. of North Billerica, Massachusetts, a maker of gearing, torque limiters, torque multipliers and traversing systems. The box rides on a rotating round shaft and turns that rotation into back and forth linear travel, the motion winding and spooling equipment uses to lay material evenly across a reel or roll. APCOR traversing boxes were offered for custom installations, with automatic reversing at the operator's settings.

Traverse pitch is set with a knurled knob on the box, and a quick index tab lets the operator pull the box free and slide it along the shaft to a new position before releasing it. The nameplate directs that the top of the shaft rotate toward the plate and that the shaft be kept lubricated. This unit is pictured mounted on its shaft with a chain sprocket and bearing supports at the ends. Its plate reads model SW- with serial number C-7661.
