Item Description
This is a JM Performance Products JM75022HTHS retention knob for CAT40 toolholders with a 5/8-11 UNC thread and a 15 degree knob angle. A retention knob, also called a pull stud, threads into the back of a taper toolholder so the CNC machine spindle drawbar can grip it and pull the holder tight into the spindle taper.
JM Performance Products makes retention knobs in the United States. Its High Torque design uses the lowest available threads in the toolholder and has a relief beneath the pilot. According to JM, standard knobs can expand and distort the toolholder taper, which reduces spindle contact and leads to chatter, poor runout and shorter tool life. In the part number, HT marks the High Torque design, and JM lists the HTHS version, made from 9310H steel, as the replacement for the obsolete JM75022 and JM75022HT knobs.
This knob is coolant through and uses S-15 and P-9 O-rings. JM lists Mori Seiki among the machine builders for this pattern. Retention knobs are not interchangeable, so machinists and CNC maintenance staff should match thread, angle and dimensions to the machine manufacturer specification before use.
