The VZH044CJANB is a hermetic, variable-speed scroll compressor for commercial air conditioning. It uses the same scroll compression principle as a fixed-speed unit (a fixed and an orbiting spiral compressing refrigerant toward the center), but instead of running at one speed and cycling on and off, it is driven by a matched frequency converter (inverter) that varies motor speed continuously from 15 to 100 revolutions per second. This lets the compressor modulate its output to match the building's real-time cooling load, which improves part-load and seasonal efficiency, holds temperature and humidity more steadily, and reduces start-up current. The motor and scroll are sealed in a welded hermetic shell.

This model is built for R410A and is also qualified for the lower-GWP refrigerants R452B and R454B, with PVE lubricant. Its maximum cooling capacity is about 6.5 tons (roughly 78,000 BTU/hr) at full speed, scaling down from there as the drive modulates. In the VZH naming, 044 is the displacement (44.5 cm3 per revolution), not a capacity figure, and the CJ code indicates a 220-240 V three-phase supply to the drive. These compressors are used in commercial rooftop, chiller, and precision-cooling systems and are designed to be paired in tandem for larger capacities.
