Item Description
This is a braided stainless steel flexible metal hose assembly, 72 inches long per the record, marked 316 and listed as a Flexline S Series hose. Flexline is a manufacturer of specialty metal hose assemblies, and its S Series is an ISO 10380 qualified construction of closed pitch corrugated 321 or 316L stainless steel hose covered with a 304 stainless steel braid.
In the S Series, the 316L hose is coded 60 with no braid, 61 with a single braid and 62 with a double braid, and the line covers nominal sizes from 1/4 inch to 20 inches. Flexline states that the S Series withstands full vacuum as well as its listed working pressure, which falls as the diameter increases. The corrugated core gives flexibility and absorbs movement, while the braid carries the pressure load and keeps the corrugations from stretching.
Pipefitters, process engineers and maintenance crews install braided metal hose on steam and condensate lines, chemical and gas transfer, pump and compressor connections, vacuum systems and equipment that needs a flexible connector to take up vibration, thermal growth or misalignment.
