Item Description
The Danfoss 120Z5042 is a 70 watt, 575 volt belt type crankcase heater, also called a belly band heater, listed by Danfoss for its MLZ and MLM 015, 019, 021 and 026 refrigeration scroll compressors. The heater label carries the TUTCO name, the heating element maker, with the Danfoss code number 120Z5042.
A belt heater is a flexible band clamped around the lower compressor shell at the oil sump. During off cycles it keeps the oil warmer than the rest of the system, so refrigerant does not migrate into and dilute the crankcase oil. That prevents oil foaming, liquid slugging and bearing wash out when the compressor restarts, especially in cold ambient conditions and on systems with long off periods.
Danfoss lists UL, CE and UKCA approvals for the part. It is used by refrigeration contractors and equipment builders on walk-in coolers and freezers, condensing units and commercial refrigeration systems running Danfoss MLZ or MLM compressors on 575 volt service, which is common in Canada.
