Item Description
The Copeland 018-0095-02 is a 575 volt, 70 watt crankcase heater sold by Emerson Climate Technologies as a service accessory for Copeland refrigeration and air conditioning compressors. It is a flexible belt style heater that wraps around the lower shell of the compressor over the oil sump.
When a compressor is off, refrigerant can migrate to the coldest point in the system and condense into the crankcase oil. At start up that liquid refrigerant flashes off, foaming the oil and washing lubricant from bearings, which can cause slugging and early wear. A crankcase heater keeps the oil warmer than the surrounding system during off cycles, which limits refrigerant migration and protects the compressor at start up.
The 575 volt rating suits compressors in commercial rooftop units, condensing units, chillers and refrigeration racks wired for 575 volt service, common in Canada. HVAC and refrigeration technicians use this part when replacing a failed heater or adding one during compressor replacement. Match the heater to the compressor model per Copeland application literature before installation.
